Our Story

Recess Pediatric Therapy was founded in 2017 by Dr. Connie Yu, SLPD, with the vision of creating a warm, welcoming space where children with developmental needs could grow through individualized, evidence-based therapy.

In early 2024, Recess entered a new chapter under the leadership of Debbie Garcia, OTR/L, a seasoned pediatric occupational therapist with more than 20 years of experience. Debbie is passionate about continuing Recess’s mission of delivering high-quality, child-centered care across the San Gabriel Valley and Greater Los Angeles area.

Meet Our Owner: Debbie Garcia, OT

Debbie Garcia is a bilingual pediatric occupational therapist originally from Miami, Florida, where she was raised and earned her degree from Florida International University. Throughout her career, Debbie has worked in a wide variety of pediatric settings—including children’s hospitals, outpatient clinics, and home health care—giving her a comprehensive perspective on child development and family-centered therapy.

In 2010, Debbie relocated to Austin, Texas, where she launched the occupational therapy program at a growing pediatric therapy practice. Inspired by her passion for inclusion and developmental play, she founded Little Land Pediatric Therapy in 2015, creating an indoor play and therapy facility designed for children of all abilities.

Today, Debbie brings that same passion, innovation, and commitment to Recess Pediatric Therapy. A proud mom of three daughters, she understands firsthand the importance of creating a supportive environment for both children and caregivers. As a native Spanish speaker, she is also proud to serve and connect with diverse families across the community.
